SCC Reduces Operating Rate of its Petrochemicals Operation in Response to the Water Shortage

BackJun 22, 2005

Reference is made to the water shortage in the Map-ta-put industrial estate, caused by the longer than expected drought spell which has brought water levels in the surrounding reservoir supply the industrial estate to a very low level. This water shortage will affect the majority of the companies operating within the industrial estate and surrounding area. To address the situation, all operators are expected to reduce water consumption and their effective operating level. The Siam Cement Group?s (SCC) petrochemicals division operates in the Industrial Estate of Thailand?s Map-ta-put industrial estate, and is expected to reduce the combined water consumption and thus the operating level of its various plants by approximately 40% from the end of June/05 onwards. As the water shortage situation will have an affect on the majority of operators located within the industrial estate, all parties are working in close unison for both short term and long terms solutions. SCC will be monitoring the situation closely for any new developments and will keep both the general public and investor community informed accordingly.
